NOTE: All files are - to my knowledge -  the latest versions available. If you know of a later version, please let me know. I'd also like to know about any new tools that you think are worthwhile, and I'll definitely try them out. Please report any broken links.  *Updated 11.09.04

*XWE (eXtendable WAD Editor) v1.14 by Csabo. Rather incredible Windows tool for editing, adding, and extracting resources (textures, patches, sprites, sounds) for just about any game type: DOOM (and all ports), QUAKE, HEXEN, UNREAL, HALF-LIFE, WOLFENSTEIN 3D and on and on. XWE edits everything that CAN be edited in the DOOM IWAD or any PWAD: Map Editor (with 3D wireframe preview), Image Editor, Texture Editor, Palette Editor, ColorMap Editor, 'Endoom' Editor, Script Editor/Compiler, Wave editor, Music viewer. The interface is simple but ingenious. When you load a WAD a simple list of all the entries is shown on the left. Click on an entry and the editing tool appears on the right. Its prime use is for manipulation of graphics - import, export, create, edit - especially when dealing with patches. Patches can be juxtaposed and positioned with great precision. XWE just about does away with converting graphics to RAW or lump formats and can insert your BMP (or LMP or RAW if you please) right into the WAD. It really is a DOOM Swiss Army Knife. In fact, it replaces just about every other graphic and sound tool I can think of. Thanks to Sarge Baldy for pointing this out to me. Updated 01.22.04 with many fixes and improvements.  Updated 11.09.04.

WinTex v5.0 by Olivier Montanuy and Javier Almenara. Nice Graphical User Interface (GUI) for doing all the same things - and much more - as DeuTex. This tool really does it all, including its own texture and sprite editor. Merge PWADs, create new IWADs, extract resources to RAW or BMP. Supports all DOOM, HEXEN, HERETIC, and now works with PAK files for QUAKE.

  WINDOWS95/98/ME/2K/XP

  272k   WINTEX50.ZIP

New Wad Tools v1.3 by David Moller. Graphic menuing system for import/export of various resources from WAD files. Can view various graphics, export as GIF or RAW, extract sound as WAVs, import RAW data - it does it all.

  DOS

  77k     NWT13.ZIP

DMGraph (DOOM Graphic Editor) v1.1  by Bill Neisius. Command-line tool for import/export of graphics to/from WADs. Helps to define patches and create new textures. One of the first DOOM graphic tools.

  DOS

  40k    DMGRAPH11.ZIP

DMGraph Front End v1.0  by Jae Muzzin. Nice little Windows GUI front end for DMGRAPH. Extract or replace graphics with a preview window of the graphic. Drop-down list of all the entries, handles insertion points for replacement. For those who struggle with command line programs. Comes with DMGRAPH 1.0 (does not support v1.1's alternate PWAD option).

  DOS

  48k    DMFE.ZIP

DM Adds v1.1 by Bernd Kreimeier. This is the elusive program needed to replace Sprites and Flats in your PWAD. The problem, of course, is that the only way to replace Sprites and Flats is to replace them ALL, so you need to build a fairly large WAD that includes not only your new graphics, but all the Sprites and Flats from the DOOM(2).WAD. Good instructions.

  DOS

  94k    DMADDS11.ZIP

DoomTex v1.0c by Steve McCrea (supplement by Ben Sze). Easy to use set of command-line tools with batch compilers for importing graphics (new or patch combinations) to a PWAD, plus merging texture PWADs with your level PWAD. Good step-by-step documentation.

  DOS

  120k   DOOMTEXS.ZIP

DeuTex v3.6 by Olivier Montanuy. Premier set of tools for import of custom textures to WAD files. Replace the resources (mission, sounds, graphics), import new sprites and flats (tricky), reverse engineer existing PWADs, and much more. Also comes in a more powerful Windows flavor, WinTex.

  DOS

  148k   DEUTEX36.ZIP

Wacker V1.0.  Nice tool for editing and composing texture patches, using drag and drop to position patches on other textures. Can copy graphics from one PWAD to another, create new textures and save to BMP, RAW, or PWAD. Also works with sprites. Many other useful functions.

  DOS

  339k   WACKER.ZIP

EnDoomer v1.01  by Zink The Dink. Terrific graphical tool for editing the ENDOOM data (that's the final credit screen that shows up after the end of DOOM). You can edit the screen to list the name of your level, give yourself credit as Level Designer, and other things. Creates colored text and backgrounds easily.

  DOS

  40k    ENDMR101.ZIP

TED v1.2 by Peter Monks. Another equally fine ENDOOM editing tool. Creates colored text, blinking text, box drawing, other options. Clear instructions on merging the result with your PWAD.

  DOS

  14k    TED.ZIP

CTexture v1.72 by Nicholas Memphis. Rather nice little Windows tool for changing textures in your PWAD. Visual three-column list of your map, textures, and flats. Good for mass texture changes.

  WINDOWS95/98/ME/2K/XP

  15k    CTEXTURE.ZIP

VBDeuTex v3.1 by Olivier Montanuy. Early version of WinTex but with different options. Change graphics and sounds.

  WINDOWS95/98/ME/2K/XP

  14k    VBDEUTEX.ZIP

Inkworks v1.1 by The Cookie Monster. A DOOM utility that allows you to do things like add mist and fog (as in HEXEN) to your DOOM WADs, change the palette, do DARK FORCES style lights in its texture maps, etc. Includes a MIXMAPS program, which takes entries from COLORMAPs in multiple WAD files and combines them into one. Pretty cool utility with many other options.

  DOS

  287k  INKWORKS.ZIP

DoomView v3.25 by D J Ski. Simple utility to view graphics in DOOM and HERETIC WADs and export to BMP.
